World Famous Swim for Alligator Lighthouse added to SALT Series schedule
Swim for Alligator Light and Salty Sports Society announced today Swim for Alligator Light will join the Inaugural SALT Series in 2020. The Islamorada based Swim for Alligator Light will be a featured event of the newly launched SALT Series in 2020.
Matt Dunn, co-founder of Salty Sports Society - the event company launching the SALT Series, said “The prestige and excitement that this event has generated in the last 6 years, has made it one of the premier open water swims in the world. It’s centered around the beauty of natural Florida and showcasing (and saving) a unique piece of history and culture. When we sat down and started thinking about a Florida based series that would inspire swimmers to use their sport to explore the state, we knew Alligator Light had to be in the mix.”
Taking place in September, Swim to Alligator Light will offer SALT Series swimmers an opportunity to train and complete a long-distance supported and guided swim while enjoying a weekend of events in off-season Islamorada. For swimmers not ready for 8 solo miles, the event has built-in options for 2-4 man relays.
The SALT Series will kick off in Anna Maria Island in February and will feature open water events of various distances throughout the state of Florida. Built for both the local and the traveling crowd, the events will offer opportunities throughout the weekend to train and explore the destination.
The SALT Series aims to bring awareness to Florida’s aquatic gems and support the growth of open water swimming and safety.
ABOUT ALLIGATOR LIGHTHOUSE
Located 4 nautical miles east of Indian Key and rising more than 136 feet above the ocean, Alligator Lighthouse has become a symbol for the island of Islamorada. First lit in 1873, the lighthouse protected both the Alligator Reef and the sailors who embarked on the magical turquoise waters that surround the Keys. Originally a publicity move by world-renowned, local artist “Lighthouse Larry” to bring attention to the historical landmark, the swim to the lighthouse and back was turned into an annual event debuting in 2013. Over the years, Swim for Alligator Light has become a premier event on the Global Open Water Schedule.
