on Pensacola Beach, FL, serving as the second stop on the SALT Series
Saint Augustine Beach, Florida – Salty Sports Society and Pensacola Sports are pleased to announce that the DeLuna’s Swim will be held in Pensacola Beach, FL. The event will be included on the SALT Series racing schedule in 2020.
The SALT Series, owned and operated by Salty Sports Society, is the only multi-destination open water swimming series in the State of Florida. Salty Sports Society’s mission is to create unique open water swimming event experiences in memorable destinations.
Pensacola Sports is a private 501(c)4 not-for-profit agency and Florida’s first and oldest sports commission dating back to 1955. Focused on event management, sports tourism opportunities and their charitable Foundation, they are primarily funded from revenues generated from membership and events.
“Pensacola Sports is very pleased to join forces with Salty Sports Society as the SALT Series is expected to add a level of professionalism and exposure to the DeLuna’s Swim. We are excited and confident in their ability to host what has proven to be an outstanding event within our destination,” said Ray Palmer, Pensacola Sports President and CEO.
Open water swimming has become the fastest growing segment of competitive swimming in the United States with media outlets focusing on the segment and new events being added every year. Races take place in Ocean, Bay, Intra-coastal, Rivers and Lakes with a specific set of rules created by governing bodies. Water safety plans are of most concern in open water swimming event planning, consisting of safety boats, jet skis, kayakers, paddleboards, officials and spotters on the water. Competitive open water swimmers train in a combination of open water and pool settings. Depending on water temperatures, swimmers have the option to wear a wetsuit, if rules allow. Some events focus on beach starts and others host in-water starts creating an excitement for both the swimmers and spectators.
“Pensacola Beach is not only one of the prettiest beaches in Florida, it’s also a great place to visit and create memories,” said Matt Dunn, Co-Founder, Salty Sports Society. “We have a long-term relationship with their sports commission staff and are thrilled to have the opportunity to host this premier event with them. Our team is confident that we will put together an unforgettable experience for our athletes, and we look forward to seeing everyone there!”
